LAKE CHARLES, La. — Sam Houston split a pair of matches to close out the McNeese Invitational on Saturday.

The Bearkats (6-4) lost the opener 3-1 to Southeast Missouri State before defeating the host Cowgirls 3-2 in the tournament finale.

McNeese won the first set 25-21, but Sam Houston came storming back to win the second 25-23. The Cowgirls retook the lead with a 26-24 win in the third set, and the Kats bounced back by taking the next two 25-20 and 15-13 to seal the victory.

McKenzie Morvant had a match-high 19 kills for Sam Houston, Hailey Heider chipped in 16 and Alyssa Fielder had 13. Avery Fowler had 39 assists, Camryn Weldon had 14 and Hannah Baker had 10 with 19 digs.

The Bearkats dropped the first two matches to Southeast Missouri 25-16, 25-23 before fighting back to take the third 25-23. SEMO wrapped up the victory with a 25-14 win in set four.

Heider led Sam Houston with 17 kills, and Morvant added 14 with six blocks. Fowler had 38 assists, and Baker had another 30-dig performance.
