NACOGDOCHES — Sam Houston battled Tulsa down to the wire but fell in five sets to wrap up the Stephen F. Austin Invitational on Saturday.
The Bearkats (6-7) jumped out to a 2-0 lead by taking the first set 25-22 and the second 27-27. Tulsa rallied to win the next two 25-17 and 27-25 before narrowly taking the fifth 15-13.
Hannah Baker had 43 digs in the match and earned all-tournament honors.
McKenzie Morvant had 15 kills,
Hailey Heider finished with 14 and
Michaela Panekova added 12.
Heider and Panekova each had three aces for Sam Houston. Morvant had eight blocks and
Avery Fowler and
Camryn Weldon both had 26 assists.
The Kats begin Conference USA action Sept. 22-23 at Jacksonville State.
