Bearkats leave El Paso with a loss

EL PASO – The Sam Houston volleyball team finished out a weekend Conference USA series with a loss to UTEP at Memorial Gym on Saturday. Â
The Bearkats (7-8, 2-2) could not capitalize in the 27-25, 25-12, 25-21 loss. Saturday's match follows Friday's loss where the Kats also fell 3-0 to the Miners. Â
Sam Houston came back to force extra points in the first set as the team seemed to build off the previous outing. The Kats couldn't rally and fell 27-25 which allowed UTEP to easily pick up a win in the second set 25-12. Â Â
Sam Houston continued to battle but were unable to extend the match, dropping the final set 25-21. Â
Michaela Panekova led the team with 11 kills, and McKenzie Morvant added eight of her own. Avery Fowler had 18 assists on the day. Â Â
The Bearkats will head to Ruston to face Louisiana Tech for a mid-week Conference USA matchup on Tuesday and Wednesday. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+. Â
