Kats in second at TRACK KAT Klash

HOUSTON — The Sam Houston bowling team had a solid opening day at the TRACK Kat Klash at Emerald Bowl on Friday.

The Bearkats are currently in second place with 4,751 total pins after going 3-2 in the baker matches. Arkansas State is first (4,861) followed by Sam Houston, Stephen. F. Austin (4,732), Tulane (4,683), Maryland Eastern Shore (4,671), Louisiana Tech (4,663), McKendree (4,574), Central Missouri (4,544), Maryville (4,503) and Newman (4,343) round out the top 10 out of the 18-team field.

Sam Houston bounced back from a loss to UMES to win its second match 923-811 against Alabama State. The Kats also picked up wins over McKendree (982-803) and Adelphi (965-798).

"Tomorrow's moving day, and we need one more quality shot from everyone to make a run," head coach Brad Hagen said. "We're still making things too difficult, and we need to trust our training. Â It's costing us mentally and physically and it's causing us to drain the batteries too quickly.

"We're very close to where we need to be but it requires self-trust and simplicity forward."

The teams will play traditional competition Saturday with the top four in total pins advancing to the championship round on Sunday.
