Kats add prep scorer to 2025-26 class

HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston head coach Chris Mudge has added some offensive firepower by signing one of the top prep scorers in the country.

Jacobe Coleman has signed to play for the defending Conference USA champion Bearkats next season. He currently plays for former NBA All-Star Jermaine O'Neal at Dynamic Prep in Dallas and was a key contributor on a top EYBL circuit team for Drive Nation.

Coleman is a three-star recruit, ranked as the No. 51 overall shooting guard in the country by 247sports and is ranked by GASO Texas Basketball Review as the No. 26 prospect in the state.

"Jacobe embodies so much of what we want at Sam Houston," Mudge said. "He's a winner. He's tough. He's a great human being. He is incredibly athletic, dynamic and very skilled. He will fit in for us from day one on both sides of the ball. You will love watching Jacobe."

Coleman was named district Newcomer of the Year after averaging 14.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists during his freshman season at Frisco Liberty. His sophomore year, he took his game to the next level and was voted as the District 10-5A Most Valuable Player, as he averaged 19.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game along with a district championship.

He transferred to Pace Academy his junior year where he averaged 22.4 points, 9.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists.

"I chose Sam Houston because of the style, and the coaches and how they showed tons of interest from when they first started recruiting me," Coleman said. "Overall, it just feels like home to me and a perfect fit for me and my basketball style of play."
