Gaither named to CUSA All-Academic Team

DALLAS – Sam Houston senior linebacker Kavian Gaither was named to the Conference USA All-Academic team on Friday, per a release from league officials. Â
A team captain and three-year starter at linebacker, Gaither is one of 11 student-athletes among CUSA teams to be named to the team, sporting a 3.30 GPA in entrepreneurship at Sam Houston.Â
On the field he has started every game for the Bearkats, directing the best scoring defense in the league. He ranks second on the team with 63.0 tackles, adding 4.0 TFLs and an interception to his totals for the year. He needs just 17 more tackles this season to move into the top 15 all-time at Sam Houston.Â
Gaither and the Kats are currently in the mix for a berth in the Conference USA title game with two weeks remaining in the regular season and a key game at Jax State up next on the slate. The game at the Gamecocks is set for an 11 a.m. kickoff from Jacksonville, Ala., and can be watched on CBS Sports Network or heard on the Bearkat Sports Network and the Bearkat Sports app.
