HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston women's basketball team cruised to a 98-47 victory over Jarvis Christian at Johnson Coliseum on Wednesday. 

The Bearkats (1-0) opened their season with a dominant performance, starting on a 13-0 run and shooting 70 percent in the first quarter to set the tone. Sam Houston surged to a 60-14 halftime lead, leaving no room for a comeback. 

Kaila Kelley led the way with a career-high 17 points, shooting 8-for-11 from the field. Nyla Inmon posted her first double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds, including 10 points in the second quarter to help extend the Bearkats' lead. 

Deborah Ogayemi added 13 points and six rebounds, and Kyleigh McGuire and Kelis Grant both chipped in 12 points as Sam Houston showcased a balanced offensive attack. 

Sam Houston will be back at Johnson Coliseum on Saturday to host former WAC opponent Seattle at 6:30 p.m. Fans can catch the action live on ESPN+.
