Kats roll well at Lewis Flyer Classic

LOCKPORT, Ill. — Sam Houston is creeping up on first place following day one at the Lewis Flyer Classic on Friday at the Strike N' Spare II.

The Bearkats went 5-0 with 5,085 total pins. Sam Houston is 55 pins behind leader Nebraska (5,139) and ahead of Maryville (4,896), McKendree (4,745), Marian (4,692), Sacred Heart (4,648), Newman (4,638), UAB (4,623), Tulane (4,592) and Wright State (4,571).

"Anytime you walk into a new center, information is important," head coach Brad Hagen said. "We covered the whole house today, jumping from low end to high end in back-to-back sets so that should help us tomorrow with having a continued grasp on the characteristics.

"Who you're crossing with, when and where are crucial, in an event like this one so being patient is important. We needed a day like this to jump start us forward in the right direction."

The Kats opened the day with a 948-845 win over Alabama A&M then took down Tulane 955-863. SHSU defeated Sacred Heart 1,147-1,006, Carroll 1,000-843 before closing with a 1,035-900 victory over Valparaiso.
