RUSTON, La. — Louisiana Tech drove in the game-winning run in the fifth inning to sweep Sam Houston with a 2-1 victory in the finale of the Conference USA opening series at Bundrick Field on Sunday.
The Bearkats (9-13, 0-3 CUSA) fell into an early deficit. The Bulldogs scored a run on a double in the bottom of the second.
Sam Houston got a big swing from
Tricia Yarotsky to tie the game at 1 in the third. She ripped a solo home run to left center to make it a new game.
Louisiana Tech was able to scratch out the winning run in the fifth off reliever
Mika Vento, who took the loss to fall to 2-4 on the season.
The Bearkats will try to bounce back and get on the winning track when Texas A&M-Commerce comes to Huntsville for a doubleheader on Tuesday. Game one is set to begin at 3 p.m.
