LAFAYETTE, La. – The Sam Houston Bearkats surged toward the top of the leaderboard, using a strong final round to finish second at the Louisiana Classics at Oakbourne Country Club on Tuesday. Â
Gene Chaikwangal turned in a final-round 66 to lead the Bearkats' team round of 278, which was the second team best round of the day in the field and 12 shots better than the third. The score of 278 got the Kats to –14 for the tournament, finishing only behind Texas A&M's score of –31 as the Aggies claimed the title at the Louisiana Classics for the third straight year. Â

Hugo Trommetter finished off an outstanding week by firing a 2-under round of 70 and ended the week in a tie for fourth individually at six shots under par. Bret Gray and Ting-Wei Hsieh each carded 71s in the final round with Hsieh ending in a tie for 18th and Gray in 32nd. Â
Josh German ended his week with a 75, finishing in a tie for 38th at +4. Â
The Kats will now return to Texas, next competing in the All-American Collegiate at the Golf Club of Houston beginning March 18. Â
