NAPA, Calif. — The Sam Houston men's golf team shaved 10 strokes off its second round total at the Silverado Resort only to place second at the Bridgestone Collegiate Invite on Tuesday

The Bearkats shot a 3-under par 284 at the par-72, 6,988-yard course over the final 18 holes. That put Sam Houston eight strokes behind the winner, BYU, which shot 12-under 852 for the 54-hole tournament.

Nihon was third at 871 followed by Michigan State (875), North Alabama (878) and Elon (879).

Ting-Wei Hsieh had another solid day for the Bearkats, placing second overall at 6-under 210 after a 71 Tuesday. Gene Chaikangwal closed with a 3-under 69 to tie for seventh at 214.

Hugo Trommetter had a 1-under 71 in the final round to finish toed for 12th place at 1-over 217. Samual McKenzie and Bret Gray both tied for 17th at 4-over 220. Josh German tied for 45th at 229.
