Kats Add Four Opponents to Future Gridiron Schedules

HUNTSVILLE – Officials from Sam Houston announced four future opponents for Bearkat Football on Wednesday, including road games at Texas and TCU along with home-and-home series with both ULM and UNLV. Â
The series of games affects the 2025, 2027, 2028 and 2029 seasons and adds six total games to the Bearkat schedules for upcoming seasons. TCU and UNLV are first-time opponents for the Kats, while Sam Houston has only taken on Texas once in its history. ULM and the Kats have all-time on eight occasions, the last coming in 2001.Â
Two games included in the announcement are for the 2025 season, starting on August 30 when the Kats welcome UNLV to Bowers Stadium for the season opener. The other comes on September 27 when Sam Houston travels to Austin to take on the Texas Longhorns at Darrel K. Royal Memorial Stadium.Â
The Kats will return the game with the Rebels on September 15, 2029 in a game scheduled to be played at Allegiant Stadium, a site which recently hosted Super Bowl LVIII. Â
Additionally, Sam Houston will travel to Monroe, La., on September 4, 2027 to take on ULM at Malone Stadium and later will go to Fort Worth to play TCU on September 18, 2027 at Amon G. Carter Stadium.Â
ULM will complete the home-and-home series with the Kats on September 28, 2028 in Huntsville.Â
The Bearkats will open the upcoming 2024 season on August 31 at Rice, followed by a trip to UCF. The first game of the season at Bowers Stadium will come on September 14 vs Hawaii before the Kats start CUSA play vs NM State on September 21 in Huntsville.Â

SAM HOUSTON vs TEXASÂ

The game will be just the second time the Bearkats and Longhorns have met on the gridiron with the first meeting coming in 2006 at DKR Memorial Stadium. Texas will be in its second season as a member of the SEC in 2025, making the Longhorns the third SEC program Sam Houston has faced in its history. Previous SEC games were vs LSU and Texas A&M. Sam Houston will be in its second year of bowl eligibility as a member of Conference USA in 2025 and now has three games on its slate, joined by road trips to Hawaii (September 6) and Air Force (September 13). Â

ULM was a Southland Conference rival of the Kats until its transition to the FBS in 1994. They have squared off with the Kats eight times with the Warhawks holding a 6-2 advantage in the series. The last meeting came in 2001 when Sam Houston recorded a 20-9 win, its second-ever victory over an FBS opponent.
