HUNTSVILLE — Six Bearkat bowlers have been named National Tenpin Coaches Association All-Academic Scholar Athletes.
Â
Graduate student Alexia Cassman, sophomore Carli Betz, senior Kaia Gray, senior Katelyn Paris, freshman Rachel Ong and senior Stephanie McCoy were all recognized for their accomplishments inside the classroom.
Â
Sam Houston was also recognized as a NTCA All-Academic Scholar team with a 3.531 team GPA this past season.
Â
"Academics have and will always be a staple of this program as the student in student-athlete is always put first," head coach Brad Hagen said. "We've had ladies go on to do amazing things from the medical world to Ivy League schools, and it's a testament to our university curriculum as well as the ladies' hard work in the classroom. To add six more this year is a great accomplishment and of those six, four of them had 4.0 GPAs this spring."Â
Â
The Bearkats now have 57 NTCA All-Academic Scholar Athletes in the program's 14 seasons.
Â
The NTCA recognizes student-athletes who have excelled in the classroom throughout the academic year. This year there are 364 honorees, representing NCAA bowling programs at 75 schools.
Â
A student athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher for the academic school year to qualify for this award.
