Sam Houston bowling has added a transfer to the squad for next season with the addition of Kaia Gray from Jackson State.
Gray, from Hazel Crest, Illinois, is the second signee from the state of Illinois to join the Bearkats and is the second transfer from the Southwestern Athletic Conference in the last three seasons.
"Kaia is a young lady ready to get to work and has the self-drive to contribute immediately which makes her development here with us attractive," said head coach
Brad Hagen. "We need individuals on this roster who are going to push themselves every day without reservation. Kaia's excitement and drive to better herself on the lanes will definitely have an impact as well as will be exemplified in the classroom."
Gray joins the Bearkats as a graduate of Kenwood Academy High School and will be transferring in from Jackson State University. At JSU she's been an intricate part of their roster and a full time member for the last two seasons. Having competed only in the spring this year due to COVID restrictions Gray is coming off her most successful campaign to date.
Despite the shortened season for the second year in a row, Gray made the best of it posting her best numbers to date including a 2021 SWAC All-Conference First Team selection and making her first SWAC All-Tournament Team posting a 204.6 average at this year's 2021 SWAC Conference Championships.
In high school, she was a four-time team MVP, All-Conference team member and All-City Team member as well as the city of Chicago high school champion 2017, 2018, and 2019.
Gray transfers in with a 3.50 GPA, majoring in Biology/Pre-Med with her future aspirations to work in sports medicine.
