HUNTSVILLE — The Sam Houston women's basketball program and head coach Ravon Justice are pleased to announce a new member to the coaching staff.Â
Ayriell Robinson has been hired as an assistant coach after spending the previous three seasons on Ty Evans' staff at Tennessee State. Â
Â
Prior to arriving at TSU, Robinson was head coach at William Woods University. In her second season at William Woods, the Owls went 5-12 and 4-11 in AMC Play. Their season ended after falling in the AMC Tournament Quarterfinals to Lyon College. She helped tutor one all-conference and one all-freshman team selection. She also had seven players named all-academic.Â
Â
Robinson had a standout season to begin her collegiate head coaching career. William Woods went 25-7 and despite falling in the semifinals of the AMC Championship, the team earned an automatic bid to the 2020 NAIA National Championship. Unfortunately, the championship was canceled due to COVID, but the team finished ranked 25th in the final NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll. Â
Robinson coached all-Americans, an AMC Defensive Player of the Year and two all-conference players at William Woods. She also had nine players earn academic all-conference honors.Â
She came to WWU after three years as an assistant for Lindenwood University. Robinson helped lead the team to back-to-back NCAA Division II National Tournament appearances and the program's first MIAA Conference Tournament Championship. The team had back-to-back 20-plus win seasons in her final two years, and the Lions made an appearance in the MIAA Conference Tournament every season. Â
Robinson played for Saint Louis University from 2009-2011. She appeared in 59 games and averaged 6.6 points and 3.5 rebounds a contest. Robinson led the team in 2009-10 with a .391 three-point percentage, and she was first on the squad the next season with 39 steals.Â
 Â
Robinson earned her master's degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University Irvine in 2016. She earned her undergraduate degree in psychology in 2011 and her associate's degree in science, physical education in 2009.Â
