HUNTSVILLE – Officials from Sam Houston announced a future opponent for Bearkat Football on Monday, adding a trip to Texas Tech to the 2026 schedule.  

The single game will take place September 26, 2026 at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock. 

The trip to Lubbock is the second game on the 2026 slate for Sam Houston with a September 5 game at Troy already on the ledger. Sam Houston now has at least one future game scheduled for each year through 2030.  

The Bearkats are currently gearing up to open the upcoming 2024 season on August 31 at Rice, followed by a trip to UCF. The first game of the 2024 season at Bowers Stadium will come on September 14 vs Hawaii before the Kats start CUSA play vs NM State on September 21 in Huntsville.

September 26, 2026 | Jones AT&T Stadium – Lubbock 
The game will be the third time the Bearkats and Red Raiders have battled on the gridiron with each contest coming in Lubbock. The last meeting came in 2015 in a game that turned into a shootout on the High Plains, ending in a 59-45 Red Raider win. The two high-powered offenses combined for 1,282 yards of total offense in the game, with 671 coming from the Kats. The first meeting came in 2005 with Texas Tech winning 80-21.
