Kats surge past HCU for second win

HUNTSVILLE — Down 2-0 early, Sam Houston could have thrown in the towel Friday evening at Pritchett Field.
That wasn't an option for the Bearkats.
Sam Houston rallied with four unanswered goals to put away Houston Christian for a 4-2 victory to improve to 2-0-1 on the season. This is the Bearkats' best start since going 2-0 to open the 2015 season.
The Huskies jumped out to a 1-0 lead five minutes into the match on a shot goalkeeper Cassia Souza had no shot at making a play on. Just 11 minutes later, the Huskies got another goal on a penalty kick.
Sam Houston dug deep and struck right before the half. Landri Townsend got the ball to Ruth Townsend who was able to find Indigo Sims fir her first career goal to cut the lead to 2-1.
Freshman Gabrielle Williams followed with an impressive goal of her own as she ran to her bench and celebrated with her teammates. The equalizer was her second of the season.
Townsend took over from there. The Kats' leading goal scorer, Townsend scored No. 2 and 3 on the season with the game winner coming in the 59th minute.
Sam Houston hits the road to face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sunday at 1 p.m. The match will be streamed online on ESPN+.
