
Kats go distance in loss

SAN ANTONIO — The Sam Houston volleyball team finished out the UTSA tournament with a 3-2 loss to the hosting Roadrunners at the Convocation Center on Saturday.   Â
The Bearkats (4-5) fell to UTSA 25-20, 25-22, 22-25, 21-25, 18-16. Sam Houston finished the weekend with 1-3 loss to Alabama and 3-0 win over Central Arkansas. Â
The Roadrunners took the lead early looking to sweep the Bearkats, but they were not going down easy as they went on a 6-1 run that led to a 25-22 victory in the third set. McKenzie Morvant had six kills in the fourth set to help keep the Kats hopes alive.Â
The Bearkats kept the momentum going as they forced a fifth set where they lost in extra points to the Roadrunners 18-16. Â
Morvant, who was named to the all-tournament team, led the team with 18 kills and seven blocks. Lylah Washington and Chelsea Butler both had five kills as well. Â
Sam Houston will return home to host their second tournament of the season on Friday.Â
