Baker named CUSA Player of the Week

DALLAS – Sam Houston libero Hannah Baker has been named the Conference USA defensive player of the week, the league announced on Monday.

Baker, a senior from Deer Park, Texas, earned her first conference player of the week honor since the program joined CUSA for the 2023 season.

She was a key factor on the defensive end as the Kats went 1-2 at the UTSA Roadrunner Classic over the weekend, recording 66 total digs across three matches. She had at least 21 digs in each match, including a season-high with 23 in Saturday's tournament finale against UTSA.

With that total vs the Roadrunners, Baker surpassed 2,000 digs for her career and is the first Bearkat in program history to reach that career mark.

The Bearkats will next return home to wrap up non-conference play when they host the Bearkat Classic. The event begins Friday with Sam Houston hosting Lamar. The Kats will also take on Texas Southern in matinee action on Saturday at Johnson Coliseum.

The match against Lamar will be aired on ESPN+ on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
