
Kats Git-R-Done in Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Sam Houston Bearkats got it done in emphatic fashion this week, running away with the team title at the Git-R-Done Invitational at Firethorn Country Club. Â
The first win of the season for Sam Houston was a loud one as they finished at 22 shots under par for the week, eight shots ahead of its nearest competition in the event hosted by the University of Nebraska. The strong field featured a pair of Big 10 schools, along with five more from G5 conferences.Â
In addition to the team title, Hugo Trommetter walked away with the individual crown, finishing at –11 for the week after rounds of 68-65-69. He opened his final round with birdies on each of his first three holes before dropping two more shots to par on bogey-free back nine. Â
Teammate Bret Gray finished in a tie for fifth at -5 for the week. He posted rounds of 67 and 66 on Monday before firing a final round of 75. Â
Ethan Dufresne, Alex Malanga and Josh German all finished in a tie for 15th at +1. Dufresne opened with a round of 76 on Monday, but rebounded with a 67 before closing a with a 71 on Tuesday. Malanga and German also each took advantage of the final round with scores of 69 and 68, respectively. Â
Gene Chaikangwal rounded out the Kats' lineup with a 28th-place finish, firing rounds of 73-71-72.Â
Sam Houston will try to keep the momentum going next week when it heads to Houston for the Bayou City Collegiate, hosted by Rice. The event will be played at Westwood GC on September 30 and October 1.
