
Kats placed eighth at Prairie Dunes Collegiate

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Sam Houston women's golf team finish eighth in the Prairie Dunes Collegiate at the Prairie Dunes Country Club on Tuesday.

The Bearkats shot 22-over par in the final round as they ended the day with +43 over 36 holes. The tournament was altered to 36 holes due to weather on day one. Sam Houston out shot two Power 4 schools, Iowa by 16 strokes and Nebraska by 17. Kats also took down in-state rivals ACU and North Texas.Â
Amelia Guo tied for fourth overall after shooting consistently with +2 on each round. Francesca Sumcad shot two birdies and an eagle in the first round and later shot two more birdies to finish 76-72 at eight over.

In the end, Florida took the team title, finishing 13-over par. The next closest team to the Gators was Eastern Michigan and Kansas State shooting +20.

Bomyeong Lee had four birdies in the first round to shoot 74-76 and placed 29th overall. Gracie Heinle finished 69th after shooting two birdies in the first round to shoot 82-81. Victoria Renzi had a birdie on the back nine of the first round to shoot 79-89.

The Bearkats will be back in action in next week for the Dale McNamara Invitational at Cedar Ridge Golf Course in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

The tournament will begin Monday, October 13, and is hosted by Tulsa.
