Series vs the Golden Lions:Â SHSU leads 1-0Â
Â
PINE BLUFF, Ark. – The Sam Houston women's basketball team will go after a midweek win on Wednesday evening when it travels to Clemmons Arena to battle Arkansas Pine-Bluff.Â
Tipoff for the Wednesday clash is set for 4:00 p.m. at Clemmons Arena. The game will air on UAPB Sports Network on YouTube.Â
The game can also be heard online on the Bearkat Sports Network and the Bearkat Athletics app with Stephanie Keele moving behind the mic for the Kats for the 2025-26 season.Â
KATS LOOK TO BOUNCE BACK AT PINE BLUFFÂ Â
- Sam Houston and head coach Ravon Jutsice will be looking for their second straight win in the series vs UAPB. Last year, the Bearkats beat the Golden Lions 67-48 in their first ever matchup behind a career-high 19 points from Aysia Ward-Strong.
- Justice is 4-1 all-time in games vs UAPB, including her tenure in the SWAC as the head coach at Prairie View
- Ravon Justice goes into Wednesday with 99 wins to her credit at Sam Houston. With one more victory she would join Rebecca Bilsing and Brenda Nichols as the only three head coaches in program history to accumulate 100 wins at SHSU
- Despite Justice's close ties to the SWAC from her 2-year stint at Prairie View prior to coming to Sam Houston, the Bearkats did not play a SWAC opponent for each of her first four years at the helm of the Bearkat program. However, this will mark the fourth straight year with a SWAC opponent on the schedule with Justice being 3-0 against her former league in that time. With Prairie View also on the schedule on Nov 17, it will mark the first time since the 2017-18 season the Kats have battled multiple SWAC opponents in the same season
- The Bearkats have been known for forcing turnovers in the Justice era and are averaging 28.0 turnovers forced per game early in the year after turning No. 17 TCU over 20 times on Sunday in Fort Worth
- Fanta Kone rebounded from a slow start in the season opener to put together a standout performance at TCU with 13 points and 3 steals. She also went 2-for-4 from beyond the 3-point arc, only the second time as a Kat she has made multiple threes in a game after a 2024-25 season which saw her hit just 10 triples in 30 games
- The Bearkats have struggled from the field thru two games, hitting just 27.8 percent of their shots; however, they have made up for much of that on the offensive glass with 23.0 offensive rebounds per game, which is already tied for eighth in the country after the first week of the year. Overall, the Kats have rebounded 44.2 percent of their missed shots this season
