DALLAS – Sam Houston kicker Christian Pavon was named the CUSA Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday, per a release from league officials.
It is the first time in 2025 a Bearkat has earned a weekly honor, but the third for Pavon in his career after twice doing so in 2024.
The nod comes after his performance in the Bearkat's 26-23 win over Delaware on Saturday in Houston where he connected on a career-high four of five field goal tries. It was the first time since 2022 and only the third time since 1991 a Bearkat kicker had connected on four field goals in a single game.
His first came from 33 yards as time expired in the first half, knotting the score at 10-10 as the teams headed to the locker room. Pavon then hit kicks from 48 and 23 yards in the third quarter and then split the uprights from 48 once again early in the fourth quarter to give the Kats what was a 26-10 lead at the time.
Pavon and the Bearkats have now won each of their last two games and will look to make it three in a row on Saturday when they travel to Middle Tennessee to take on the Blue Raiders. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m. from Murfreesboro on ESPN+.
