FORT WORTH – The Sam Houston women's basketball team will go after an early-season signature win on Sunday night when it travels to Schollmaier Arena to battle No. 17 TCU.
Tipoff for the Sunday's clash is set for 7:00 p.m. at Schollmaier Arena. The game will air on ESPN+ with John Liddle and Jada Curtis bringing the action from courtside.
The game can also be heard online on the Bearkat Sports Network and the Bearkat Athletics app with Stephanie Keele moving behind the mic for the Kats for the 2025-26 season.
KATS TO BATTLE RANKED HORNED FROGS
- With the Horned Frogs ranked No. 17 in the AP poll, it makes TCU just the second ranked opponent Sam Houston has faced in the last 13 seasons. SHSU last faced a ranked opponent when it took on then No. 10 Texas A&M during the 2020-21 season. Prior to that, the Kats had not faced a ranked foe since taking on No. 10 Delaware during the 2012-13 season
- Sam Houston and head coach Ravon Justice will be looking for its second straight win in the series vs TCU with the last coming in 2022. The Bearkats have not beaten TCU in consecutive games since winning the first 4 games of the all-time series from 1980 to 1985
- Ravon Justice goes into Sunday with 99 wins to her credit at Sam Houston. With 1 more victory she would join Rebecca Bilsing and Brenda Nichols as the only 3 head coaches in program history to accumulate 100 wins at SHSU
- Sam Houston forced 36 turnovers on Monday vs Southwestern Christian in the season opener. It marked the 26th time in the Ravon Justice era in which the Kats forced at least 30 turnovers in a single game
- The Bearkats shot just 26.9 percent from the floor vs SCU on Monday, but made up for it with 32 offensive rebounds which resulted in 26 second-chance points
- Sam Houston allowed 17 points in the second quarter vs SCU, but buckled down and allowed 17 total points in the entire second half vs SCU
