Brown lands on DCTF All-Texas second team

CARROLLTON, Texas – Sam Houston defensive back CJ Brown has been named to Dave Campbell's Texas Football's college football all-Texas second team, per a release from the publication on Tuesday.

Brown came to the Bearkats for the 2025 season after playing collegiately at both Bowling Green and NIU and made an immediate impact to the Sam Houston secondary. He played in 10 of 12 total games, missing a pair of contests midyear due to injury, finishing with 64 total tackles, 2.0 TFLs, five pass breakups and interception and three forced fumbles.

He ranked in the top 12 in CUSA with an average of 6.4 tackles per game and second in forced fumbles. Brown had at least five tackles in nine of his 10 games, turning in standout games at Hawaii, NM State, Oregon State and against FIU.

He had eight stops and forced his first fumble of the year early in the year at Hawaii, but later turned in his biggest game of the year in Las Cruces when he racked up eight more tackles, including a TFL and forced a pair of fumbles at NM State.

Injury sidelined him for the bulk of the month of October, but he returned and totaled a season-high 10 tackles at Oregon State, helping the Kats scratch the win column for the first time in 2025. He then closed the year with his first interception of the season in the year's finale vs FIU.
