
Kats finish eighth at Maridoe Invitational

CARROLLTON, Texas – The Sam Houston men's golf team finished in a tie for eighth place with ULM in the 13-team field at the Maridoe Collegiate Invitational at Maridoe Golf Club on Tuesday.Â
The Bearkats played against tough competition, finishing +43 in the 54-hole event, just one place behind host North Texas. Hugo Trommetter and Bret Gray led the Kats shooting nine over and tied for 26th overall. Trommetter finished strong in the final round with an eagle on the sixth hole and fired off rounds of 73-77-75. Gray picked up a turned in his best card in the second round, shooting one under before finishing  with 79-71-75 on his scorecard for the week. Â
In the end, the No. 7 Oklahoma took the team title, finishing seven strokes under par overall. The next closest team to the Sooners was the No. 4 Oklahoma State at 9 over. The Cowboys were followed by No. 3 Arizona State at +24 and No. 14 Alabama at +25.Â
Josh German tied for 42nd individually with 14 over for the Kats, finishing with rounds of 79-74-77. Gene Chaikangwal came just behind him with a total score of 15 over and tied for 53rdturning in rounds of 80-75-76. Ethan Dufresne shot +17 and fired off 76-77-80, picking up an eagle in the final round before ultimately finishing tied for 59th. Â
The Bearkats will be back in action at the Aggie Invitational at Traditions Golf Club in College Station. The tournament will begin Monday, April 12, and is hosted by Texas A&M Aggies.
