TEXARKANA, ARK. – The Sam Houston men's golf team fired a round of 283 and stands in a three-way tie for second place with Middle Tennessee and UTEP after the second round of the Conference USA Championships on Tuesday, played at Texarkana Country Club.
Hugo Trommetter led the way shooting six-under-par (66) on the day moving him up 22 spots to 2nd overall. Trommetter fired off four birdies and an eagle to start off his round and shot another birdie later to go 74-66.
Bret Gray fired off a round of 71 with three birdies and two bogeys moving up to 23rd individually.
Ethan Dufresne and
Gene Chaikangwal came in right next to Gray with one-over-par. Dufresne shot four birdies and five bogeys to be in 15th individually. Chaikangwal fired off two birdies and three bogeys on the day moving to 34th overall.
Josh German came in right behind them with a 74. German shot an eagle on the second hole, five bogeys and a birdie to be tied for 19th place.
Liberty remains the leader of the 8-team field with team rounds of 293 heading into the third round. They are just four strokes ahead of the Bearkats, Miners and the Blue Raiders.
The Kats will tee off for the third round of the CUSA Championships at 8 a.m. from Texarkana Country Club. Sam Houston will be paired with Liberty and Middle Tennessee.
