HUNTSVILLE — The Sam Houston men's basketball team has added a former Texas prep standout for the 2025-26 season, head coach Chris Mudge announced Thursday.
Justin Begg, a 6-foot guard from Houston, has signed with the Bearkats after one season at George Mason. He appeared in 33 games for the Patriots, averaging 2.9 points and 1.2 assists in 9.1 minutes per contest.
Begg won two state championships at Episcopal High School in Bellaire on his way to being a two-time Southwest Preparatory Conference Most Valuable Player. He was also a three-time All-SPC first-team selection, earned All-Peach Jam honors and was named to the Nike EYBL All-Breakout Team during his AAU career with Houston Hoops.
Last season, he shot 33.3 percent from 3-point range for George Mason and led the team in assist rate at 26.0. His best game of the season came against Rhode Island on Feb. 8 when he posted career highs in points with 12 and 3-pointers made with three.
