HUNTSVILLE – Jace Martinez had three hits and Hunter Autrey hit his ninth home run of the season, but it was not enough for the Sam Houston Bearkats in a 6-3 loss on Tuesday night to HCU at Don Sanders Stadium in the final midweek game of 2025.
Autrey's solo blast tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the third inning, but the Huskies (27-23) responded with four runs in the next half inning. The frame was highlighted by a 3-run triple by Kenneth Dutka, snapping the deadlock with one of four extra-base hits for HCU on the night.
Martinez had a double and scored twice, totaling three of the Kats' (12-40) eight hits in the game. Parker Blackman had an RBI double in the sixth and Sam Lee picked up an RBI grounder in the second, while the blast from Autrey gave him 42 RBI on the year and an even 100 for his career.
Tate Hickman struck out a pair and allowed two runs in 2.0 innings, making his third start of the year. Conner Mondey followed and took the loss to fall to 0-5 on the year. Three other bullpen arms saw the bump as well, including Garrett Baumann who had three strikeouts in 2.0 scoreless frames.
