HUNTSVILLE – Anamaria Kurtsikashvili, a top junior girls singles player from Tbilisi, Georgia has signed on to join the Sam Houston women's tennis team for the upcoming 2025-26 season.
Kurtsikashvili currently is ranked No. 426 in ITF Women's Pro Rankings in singles. She also holds a WTA Women's Ranking of No. 1346 in singles and No. 1555 in doubles.
"We are very excited with Anamaria's commitment to Sam Houston for the 2025-26 academic year," Bearkat head coach Rob Hubbard said. "I strongly believe she will be an impact player on the team from the start in our fall schedule."
Among Kurtsikashvili's accomplishments are her 2023 ITA J30 Junior Tournament championship in Tbilisi and four finals appearances in the Georgian National Championships. She sports a UTR of 9.2 in both singles and doubles.
"Anamaria brings with her a wealth of experience playing both the juniors and women's open division on the ITF World Circuit which should have her prepared to compete collegiately," Hubbard said. "Her well-developed all-court game will help us both in singles and doubles. Anamaria's achievements and work ethic both athletically and academically make her an ideal student-athlete signing for Sam Houston and our tennis program."
In addition to her on-court accolades, Kurtsikashvili excels as a student. She is fluent in Georgian, Russian, and English and is developing a fourth language in Spanish. She graduated with a 3.8 GPA (4.0 in core courses).
