
Kats take down the Cardinals

HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston took down the Lamar Cardinals in nonconference volleyball action at Johnson Coliseum on Tuesday.
The Bearkats (3-3) started off hot and kept the momentum going throughout the match, stopping the Cardinals 25-15, 26-24, 25-16, 25-16.

Sam Houston took control early in the first set after going on a run at 11-15. Freshman Chloe Monson helped put it away for the Bearkats delivering the final kill alongside her seven kills and two service aces in the set one.

The Cardinals and Bearkats went back and forth in the second set after the Cardinals brought the heat with a four-point run early. The Cardinals took the set in the end after going into an extra point 26-24.

The Kats come back with a vengeance taking the lead early and not looking back taking set three 25-16. Sam Houston kept that momentum going into the fourth set going on two five point runs at 7-11 and later at 14-20. An attack error from the Cardinals secured the set and the match for the Bearkats.

Monson had 18 kills alongside Chelsea Butler at 14 kills to lead the night. Rachelle Reed kept the Bearkats dominance at the net with 8 blocks. Shaelin White led the team with 25 digs, and Avery Fowler had 25 assists.

The Bearkats will head to Corpus Christi for the Islander Classics on Friday and Saturday. The first match is against Tarleton at 3 p.m. with two matches to follow against Prairie View and A&M Corpus Christi on day two.
