HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston women's tennis team plays host to former Southland Conference rival McNeese on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Chuck and Wanda Beckner Center on the Bearkat campus.
The contest will be the third outing of the 2026 season for the Kats. Sam Houston lost to nationally-ranked Texas A&M in its opening non-conference contest and fell 4-2 to Lamar in the squad's home opener last week. McNeese opened its spring dual match slate with a 6-0 victory over Alcorn State.
Nayuma Subba and Anamaria Kurtsikashvili each picked up singles wins in the match vs the Lamar last week and will be looking to carry that momentum into Friday's tilt. Overall, the 2026 Bearkat roster is loaded with experience as five letter winners from last spring return.
Friday's matchup between the Bearkats and Cowgirls marks the 34th meeting between the two squads with McNeese holding a 19-14 edge in the series that began in 1985.
The match marks the last opportunity until March 19 for fans to watch the Bearkats in action on their home courts. Sam Houston plays its next 10 matches on the road as the team travels to Lubbock, San Antonio, San Marcos, Abilene, Houston as well as three contests in Mississippi in February.
