
Kats secure win over Owls

HUNTSVILLE - The Sam Houston Bearkats secured a 62–57 victory over Kennesaw State on Saturday afternoon at Johnson Coliseum.
Sam Houston (13–6, 6–2 CUSA) opened the game with a 7–0 run before the Owls (10–10, 3–6 CUSA) responded with a 14–2 surge late in the first half. The Bearkats answered coming out of halftime, stringing together a 10–0 run in the third quarter and holding off a late Kennesaw State push to seal the win down the stretch.
Deborah Ogayemi led Sam Houston with 18 points and nine rebounds, falling just one rebound shy of her 12th double-double of the season. Esther Rodellar recorded a new career high with 12 points and knocked down the Bearkats' lone three-pointer of the afternoon. Nyla Inmon added her fourth consecutive double-figure scoring performance.
The Bearkats forced 25 turnovers and converted them into 23 points, while also winning the battle on the boards with 43 rebounds. Ogayemi and Aysia Ward-Strong led the team with nine rebounds each.
Whitney Dunn and Ward-Strong also contributed defensively with two steals apiece, helping Sam Houston tally nine steals as a team.
With the win, Sam Houston remains in sole possession of third place in the Conference USA standings.
