DALLAS — Since taking over starting point guard duties due to injuries, Jacob Walker has continued to shine for Sam Houston, and the true freshman was honored for his play this past week by the Conference USA office.
Â
Walker was selected as the league's Freshman of Week after leading the Bearkats to a pair of closely contested home wins over Middle Tennessee and Jax State. He averaged 18.5 points by shooting 43.5 percent from the floor and a perfect 100 percent, 15 for 15, from the free throw line.
Â
He scored 17 points in Saturday's win over Jax State, including a pivotal three-point play that put Sam Houston up six with 43 seconds to go. Walker also went 7 for 7 from the line, making three in a row with less than a minute left in the 82-78 win.
Â
He scored 20 points with 3 assists, shooting 50 percent from the floor and a perfect 8 for 8 from the stripe in the 78-70 win over MTSU.
