HUNTSVILLE – Sam Houston head golf coach Brandt Kieschnick announced the hiring of Casey Leatherman to the staff as assistant women's golf coach on Thursday.
A Huntsville native and graduate of Tarleton State University with a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, Leatherman was a standout student-athlete for the Texans from 2016 to 2020. She earned Dean's List honors in seven semesters while building one of the most decorated careers in program history.
"Casey's competitive background, championship experience, and proven track record of developing young talent make her a tremendous addition to our staff," Kieschnick said. "Her energy, attention to detail, and passion for mentoring student-athletes align perfectly with our program's values."
Leatherman transitions to the collegiate coaching ranks after building championship-caliber programs at the high school level. Most recently, she served as head boys and girls golf coach at Georgetown High School where her teams consistently captured UIL District titles, produced multiple individual champions, advanced to regionals and state competition, and developed a culture of sustained excellence. Under her leadership, Georgetown's boys program qualified for the UIL State Tournament and finished fifth, while both boys and girls programs regularly dominated district competition.
In addition to her school-based coaching roles, Leatherman has been actively involved with the Southern Texas PGA since 2017, organizing tournaments, managing course play, posting scores, interpreting rules, and presenting awards. Her experience working directly with players and families at competitive events reflects her strong communication skills and commitment to the growth of the game.
As a sophomore at Tarleton, she was named second team all-conference and set a Lone Star Conference Championship individual low-round record with a 66, helping cement her reputation as one of the league's elite competitors. She later earned honorable mention all-LSC honors as a junior and was named Lone Star Conference Golfer of the Week during her collegiate career.
Her competitive résumé extends back to an exceptional high school career at Huntsville High School where she helped lead her team to a 2014 Class 4A state championship and multiple district titles. Individually, she finished fourth at the 2014 state tournament and represented Texas in the prestigious Texas vs. Mexico Cup.
