Kats get first ever win over UTEP

EL PASO – Sam Houston earned their first-ever win over UTEP on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Miners 70–58 at the Don Haskins Center.
Sam Houston (14–7, 7–3 CUSA) battled back and forth with UTEP (10–12, 2–9 CUSA) in the first half before opening the third quarter on a 6–0 run. The Bearkats continued to build momentum with timely runs down the stretch to pull away for the road victory.
Deborah Ogayemi led the Bearkats with a second consecutive standout performance, tying her career high with 19 points while adding five rebounds and five steals for her eighth double-figure scoring effort in conference play.
Annika Corcoran knocked down three shots from beyond the arc to finish with 14 points, while Nyla Inmon and Fanta Kone each added 12. Inmon also led Sam Houston on the glass with seven defensive rebounds.
The Bearkats' defense forced 24 turnovers and turned them into 19 points, finishing with 12 steals overall.
With the win, Sam Houston is now tied for second place in Conference USA with Missouri State.

The Bearkats return home to Johnson Coliseum to host Missouri State on Thursday and FIU on Saturday, with both games airing on ESPN+.
