Kats close OU tournament with 9-inning win

Norman, OK. — The Bearkats went to extra innings against Southeastern Louisiana to close out the Oklahoma Tournament at Love's Field on Sunday morning.

The Lions took an early lead in the top of the first inning, but Sam Houston answered immediately. Bella Perez delivered an RBI double to tie the game at 1-1.

Both teams remained scoreless over the next four innings until the Bearkats broke the tie in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Jordan Peno to take a 2-1 lead. Sam Houston held Southeastern Louisiana in the sixth, but the Lions rallied in the seventh to tie the game and force extra innings.

The teams traded opportunities and loaded the bases in extras, but neither side capitalized until the bottom of the ninth. Peno delivered again with an RBI double to seal a 3-2 victory.

Makenzi Jenkins started in the circle for the Bearkats, pitching four innings with one strikeout. Kendall Daniel closed out the game, recording two strikeouts.

Sam Houston remains on the road and will travel to Beaumont to face Lamar in a midweek matchup Tuesday at 6 p.m.
