Kats roll to 4-win week

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Sam Houston women's tennis team trekked east and returned to Huntsville with four wins over Tennessee Southern, WKU and Middle Tennessee after downing the Blue Raiders on Saturday afternoon.
Sam Houston (7-9) swept Tennessee Southern, 7-0, twice in a doubleheader on Tuesday before downing WKU on Thursday in Bowling Green, 5-2, for its first win over a CUSA opponent this year. Two days later the Bearkats went into Murfreesboro and grabbed a 5-2 win.
The 4-match win streak is the longest for the Kats since winning nine in a row during the 2021 spring season and the first time it has won multiple matches vs CUSA opponents since joining the league for the 2024 spring season.
Nayuma Subba, Adithi Kurtsikashvili, Sara Sadadinovic and Ella Fitcher all turned in 4-0 singles weeks with Subba winning all three of her matches at the No. 1 spot. Kurtsikashvili picked up three of her wins at No. 2, while also stepping up and getting a No. 1 win in the second match vs Tennessee Southern.
Three of Sadadinovic's wins came at No. 3 while three of Fitcher's came at No. 4. The Bearkats also were outstanding in doubles play, taking the doubles point in all four of the weeks' matches.
The Kats next return to the Beckner Tennis Center on Thursday, March 19, when it hosts Stephen F. Austin at 1:00 p.m. before hosting Louisiana Tech on Saturday, March 21.
