Kats drop tilt to SFA

HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston women's tennis team had its 4-match win streak come to an end on Thursday, dropping a 4-3 dual-match decision to Stephen F. Austin at the Chuck & Wanda Beckner Tennis Complex. Â
The Lumberjacks (4-6) took the doubles point, but had the Bearkats (7-10) rally back to knot the match at 3-3 with focus shifting to Court 5 where SFA's Ana Paul Chavez outlasted Ella Fitcher, 6-3 3-6 6-3, for the clinching point. Â
The Kats had surged their way back to even it with wins at Nos. 1, 4 and 6 but it did not prove to be enough. Â
Nayuma Subba, the reigning CUSA Player of the Week, continued her strong play with a 6-4 6-3 win over Sonja Rooth at the No. 1 court. Her 10th consecutive victory in singles play. The Kats also got a straight-set win from Adithi Venkatakrishnan over Avery Kinsey at No. 6 and Sara Sadadinovic downed Antonella Taco 6-4 4-6 6-0 t No. 3.Â
The Kats will look to rebound on Saturday when they host Louisiana Tech. First serve is set for 11:00 a.m.Â
