Former Sam Houston bowler Densie Blankenzee has qualified as finalist for the 2026 Intercollegiate Singles Championships for the second year in a row following four sectional qualifying events around the country this past weekend.
Denise Blankenzee placed third at the Fort Worth Regional with an average of 217.33 to advance to the Intercollegiate Singles National Championship in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Blankenzee finished her Bearkat career last season, but she still had eligibility for the USBC Singles event as a full-time graduate student where she continues to assist the Sam Houston bowling program.
"I think anytime you know you have one more shot to give it a run, and her competitiveness, you're going to find a way," head coach Brad Hagen said. "It's always a treat to watch her compete but it was even more fun to see her fellow collegiate competitors root for her one more time knowing what she's capable of."
Four current Bearkats also competed at the sectional qualifier in Fort Worth. Emily Hart finished ninth, Abigail Burke placed 16th, Miya Greene was 17th and Noey Sarntong, who quaiflied for the Intercollegiate Singles Championships last year along with Blankenzee, was 24th.
Jessica Sillis came in 26th place, Breana Chewens finished 54th and Ana Gonzales was 64th.
Sam Houston is set to compete in the CUSA Championships Thursday through Saturday at Colonial Lanes in Harahan, Louisiana.
