Daniel earns first CUSA weekly honor

DALLAS — Junior Kendall Daniel had a stellar weekend in the circle for Sam Houston to help the Bearkats earn a Conference USA sweep over Middle Tennessee at home.

Daniel picked up a win and a save in two appearances to earn the league's Pitcher of the Week honors, CUSA officials announced on Monday. This is the first weekly award for her this season.

The Kingwood native turned in remarkable performance in the series finale on Sunday to complete the sweep of the Blue Raiders with a 2-1 victory in extra innings. Daniel got the start and pitched all eight innings, allowing just three hits to go along with 10 strikeouts and only one walk.

Daniel came in on relief in Saturday's 6-3 win over MTSU and tossed the final 2 2/3 innings to earn the save. She entered the game with a runner on in the fifth after the Blue Raiders cut the lead to 5-3 and got the next two batters to groundout while allowing only one hit over the course of the final two frames to close the door on MTSU's attempted comeback.

For the weekend, Daniel pitched 10 2/3 innings with 12 strikeouts and a 0.66 ERA.
