Bearkats open CUSA Championships in second place

FRISCO – The Sam Houston women's golf team sits in second place at 4-over par following the opening round of the CUSA Championships on Monday at Stonebriar Country Club.
The Bearkats hold a three-stroke lead over FIU and are four strokes ahead of Jacksonville State. Western Kentucky leads the field at even par, three strokes in front of Sam Houston.
Amelia Guo paced the Bearkats, finishing tied for sixth at even par. She carded a birdie on No. 5 and caught fire on the back nine with three consecutive birdies on holes 12 through 14, adding another on No. 16.
Bomyeong Lee and Pureun Kim are tied for 12th at 1-over par. Lee recorded three birdies on holes 3, 8, and 16, while Kim added birdies on holes 3, 14, and 16.
Isabelle Hurrion followed closely, tied for 16th at 2-over par with birdies on holes 3 and 16. Francesca Sumcad rounded out the Bearkats' scoring, sitting in 42nd at 7-over par, highlighted by birdies on holes 11 and 16.
The second round of the CUSA Championships is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, with Sam Houston teeing off at 11 a.m. alongside Western Kentucky and FIU. Live scoring will be available via Scoreboard by Clippd.
