Kats tied for eighth in the CUSA Championships

TEXARKANA, Ark. – The Sam Houston men's golf team tied for eighth place with Louisiana Tech after carding an even-par final round at the Conference USA Championships on Wednesday at Texarkana Country Club.
The Bearkats finished the tournament at 4-over par, matching Louisiana Tech for eighth place. Western Kentucky (-13) claimed the team title, followed by Jacksonville State (-6).
Caleb Lumpkin led the way for Sam Houston with a strong final round of even par, highlighted by two birdies and an eagle on the 12th hole. He finished tied for 10th at 4-under par with rounds of 69-71-72.
Grayson Petru posted a 2-over 74 in the final round, recording a pair of front-nine birdies and another on hole 15 to secure a tie for 28th at even par (69-73-74).
Jackson Hymer opened his round with a birdie and added two more on the back nine to finish with a 73. Hymer delivered consistent play throughout the tournament, shooting rounds of 73-73-73 to finish at 3-over par in 36th place.
Alex Malanga was the first Bearkat to finish and delivered one of the top rounds of the day, firing a 3-under 69 with five birdies. He closed strong to finish at 7-over par (81-73-69) in 44th place.
Sebastian May recorded two birdies to start the back nine en route to a final-round 76. He finished the tournament at 18-over par (79-79-76) in 49th place.
The Bearkats wrap up their spring season with a solid showing and will return to competition in the fall for the 2026–27 campaign.
