
Perez receives CUSA Spring service award

DALLAS — Conference USA announced 11 student-athletes as the Spring Spirit of Service Award winners on Tuesday, and Sam Houston junior Bella Perez represents the Bearkats on the list.

The award honors student-athletes with significant participation in community service, good academic standing and stellar contribution to their sport.

Perez is a SAAC Member and serves on the SAAC Executive Council, CUSA Extra Yard for Teachers-Sam Houston committee and as a Huntsville Public Schools Mentor. She also spends her spare time working the Ronald McDonald House Supply Donation Drive, HEB Sponsor Participation/In Store School Supply Drive and is an Ambassador for the Athletic Department, CUSA Green Out Games/Mental Health softball coordinator, Mentor for Freshman in student-athlete course, coordinator/host the All Sports Picnic for the Athletic Department and the Community Service Coordinator for softball

Her academic achievements include the Dean's List Fall 2024-Spring 2025, Fall 2025, Spring 2026; the CUSA Commissioner's Honor Roll 2024-2025, 2025-2026; and CUSA Academic Medal 2025-2026.

Perez continued to shine as one of CUSA's top catchers during the 2026 season, earning first-team all-conference honors after excelling on both sides of the ball. She started all 55 games for Sam Houston and enjoyed a stellar offensive campaign, batting .335 with 58 hits, 13 doubles, six home runs and 39 RBIs.

She ranked among the conference leaders in hits, doubles and RBIs while making a significant jump in production from the previous season. Behind the plate, Perez was equally impressive, posting a .996 fielding percentage with just one error all year. She threw out 42 percent of opposing base stealers, did not allow a passed ball throughout the season and recorded 235 putouts and 26 assists.
