Bearkats open fall slate at Lady Demon Invitational

HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston tennis team will open its 48th season Friday and Saturday at the Lady Demon Invitational in Natchitoches, La.
The two-day tournament will be played at Northwestern State's Jack Fisher Lady Demon Tennis Complex. Competition begins at 8:30 a.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday.
Head coach Rob Hubbard and the Bearkats will compete in a field that also includes host Northwestern State, Lamar, Stephen F. Austin and Tyler Junior College.
Sam Houston enters the fall with a young roster featuring five freshmen and one transfer. Senior Sara Sadadinovic, junior Isabella Garza and sophomores Anamaria Kurtsikashvili and Ivona Savekova return for the Kats.
The newcomers include freshmen Maria Gajete, Sara Khamitova, Veronika Muzichenko and Viktorie Zidelova, along with sophomore transfer Emma Nordin.
Following this weekend's action, Sam Houston will compete in four more fall events. The Kats will travel to the Rice Invitational on Sept. 25-27, the ITA Texas Regional Championships in Waco on Oct. 8-11 and the Texas State Invitational on Nov. 7-8.
Sam Houston will also host the Bearkat Invitational on Oct. 16-18 at the Chuck and Wanda Beckner Tennis Center.
