Kats head to Houston for Rice Invitational

HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston tennis team will continue its fall schedule Friday through Sunday at the Rice Invitational in Houston.
The three-day tournament will be played at the George R. Brown Tennis Center. Joining the Bearkats in the 10-team field are host Rice, Baylor, Houston, LA Tech, Northwestern State, SMU, Tulane, UTRGV and UTSA.
Competition begins at 9 a.m. Friday with two rounds of doubles and one round of singles. Saturday's schedule features one round each of doubles and singles before the tournament concludes with a final round of singles Sunday.
Sam Houston opened its fall schedule last weekend at the Lady Demon Invitational in Natchitoches, La. Sara Sadadinovic and Maria Gajete went 3-0 to capture the White Draw doubles title, while Ivona Savekova and Isabella Garza won the White Draw consolation bracket.
Sadadinovic also advanced to the final of the Yellow Singles Draw after earning a pair of straight-set victories. Anamaria Kurtsikashvili posted two singles wins during the weekend, while Sara Khamitova, Veronika Muzichenko, Isabella Garza, Maria Gajete and Viktorie Zidelova also earned singles victories.
Following the Rice Invitational, the Kats will travel to Waco for the ITA Texas Regional Championships on Oct. 8-11.
