Bearkats take series with 3-1 win over Owls

Kennesaw, Ga. — Sam Houston volleyball secured the series victory over Kennesaw State with a 3-1 win Saturday afternoon at VyStar Arena.Â
Chloe Monson led Sam Houston offensively with 16 kills and added 10 digs for a double-double. Bella Wood also recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs, while Chelsea Butler finished with 11 kills on 23 attacks and a .348 hitting percentage.Â
Annika Brooks added five kills without committing an attack error, hitting .500 on the afternoon. Faith Roulston also contributed five kills, while Rachelle Reed recorded nine digs.Â
Brenlin Garlitz paced the Bearkats with 27 assists, while Lauren Pyle added 15 assists and nine digs. Shaelin White led the defensive effort with 15 digs.Â
Sam Houston took control early, winning the opening set 25-17 before edging Kennesaw State 27-25 in the second. The Owls answered with a 29-27 win in the third set, but the Bearkats closed out the match with a 25-20 victory in the fourth.Â
The Bearkats finished the match with 50 kills and a .212 hitting percentage while holding Kennesaw State to a .130 hitting percentage.Â
Sam Houston returns home for its next Conference USA matchup against New Mexico State October 2nd and 3rd at the Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
