Lance Miles is back for his second stint on the Bearkat coaching staff, taking over the volunteer coaching position for the 2021 season after spending a year in the Texas Rangers organization. With the Rangers, Miles held a managerial position in the Dominican Republic, overseeing player development for the Rangers' team participating in the Dominican Summer League.
Miles took that spot with the Rangers following two years on staff with the Bearkats that followed a stellar playing career on the diamond. He served the 2018 season as the team's Director of Baseball Operations before transitioning to the volunteer coaching role for 2019 the 2019 season.
The Woodlands native completed his general business degree from SHSU in 2017, posting a 3.98 GPA while also receiving a minor in management.
As a player with the Bearkats, Miles played a total of 118 games, including 114 starts, while helping lead the program to consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. The three-year mainstay with the program posted a .293 career batting average while making an equally impressive mark off the field.
Miles served as the team’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Representative and was a member of the group’s executive council. He was recognized as one of 11 athletes named to the Academic All-District Baseball Team District 7, which was open for nomination to Division I players from Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming.
In his position with the Kats, Miles will handle an assortment of responsibilities that includes team travel, academic performance and the program’s baseball camps.
