Cooper Bassett 2022 Head Shot

Cooper Bassett

Bassett will begin his first season with Sam Houston in 2022, overseeing the Bearkat offensive line.

Bassett comes to Huntsville after one year directing the offensive line at Southeast Missouri where his unit helped pave the way for a 1,000-yard rusher in Geno Hess in 2021. His time in Cape Girardeau came after working four years in the same capacity at West Texas A&M. He also spent two seasons as run game coordinator with the Buffs.

In 2020, Bassett’s offensive line paved the way for a WT offense which ranked 14th in the nation in rushing with 207.6 yards per game. The Buffs led the Lone Star Conference in third (41.4 percent) and fourth down (58.3 percent) conversion percentage, and first downs (99). WT rated eighth nationally in first downs, as well.

Prior to that, the offensive line produced 363 yards in total offense per game during the 2019 campaign. Under Bassett’s tutelage, the Buffs rushed for 31 touchdowns, their most in a season in over a decade. WT ranked first in the LSC and 15th in the nation in sacks allowed that year.

Bassett coached a pair All-Lone Star Conference performers in Parker Hanna and Travis Vornkahl in 2018.

After completing his college career at Oklahoma State (2009-12), where the Cowboys compiled a record of 40-12, Bassett coached at Missouri and Maryland.

He spent three seasons at Missouri where the Tigers finished 23-5 and won back-to-back SEC East Division titles.

At Maryland, Bassett worked primarily with the offensive line.

A native of Tuttle, Okla., Bassett was a four-year letterman and senior captain at Oklahoma State, where he played tight end and defensive line. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Science from OSU in 2012 and Master’s in Education from Missouri in 2015.
