At Louisville in 2021, Bicknell’s offensive line helped the Cardinals rank 21st nationally in total offense and 22nd in rushing. Louisville led the ACC in fewest sacks and tackles for loss allowed, while guard Caleb Chandler earned first-team All-ACC recognition.
His collegiate experience also includes coaching the offensive line at Auburn in 2020 and Ole Miss from 2017-19. The Rebels ranked ninth nationally in rushing in 2019, averaging 251.2 yards per game. During his tenure, tackle Greg Little earned first-team All-SEC and second-team All-America honors before being selected by the Carolina Panthers in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
Bicknell spent seven seasons coaching in the NFL, beginning as the New York Giants’ assistant offensive line coach from 2009-11. He helped the Giants win Super Bowl XLVI following the 2011 season.
He subsequently coached the offensive lines for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2012 and Pittsburgh Steelers in 2013 before serving as the Miami Dolphins’ assistant offensive line coach from 2014-15. During his time in Miami, Mike Pouncey earned Pro Bowl recognition and tackle Ja’Wuan James was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team.
Before entering the NFL, Bicknell served eight seasons as Louisiana Tech’s head coach from 1999-2006, compiling 43 victories. He earned WAC Coach of the Year honors in 2001 after leading the Bulldogs to the conference championship in their first season of league membership. He previously coached Louisiana Tech’s offensive line from 1997-98.
Bicknell began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Boston College before spending 10 seasons at New Hampshire, coaching the defensive line from 1987-92 and offensive line from 1993-96. He returned to Boston College as assistant head coach and offensive line coach from 2007-08.
A three-year letterwinner at Boston College, Bicknell played for his father, Jack, and was the center for 1984 Heisman Trophy winner Doug Flutie. He snapped the ball on Flutie’s famous game-winning Hail Mary touchdown pass against Miami in 1984.
A native of North Plainfield, N.J., Bicknell and his wife, Helen, have three children: John, Katelyn and Alyse.
